The completion of Indoferro Steel Factory in 2016 and Indocoke Coal Industry in 2013 by Wijaya Kusuma Contractors came at pivotal moments in Indonesia's industrial history. In 2013, the coal industry was booming, driven by global demand for energy and raw materials, with Indonesia positioned as one of the world’s largest exporters of coal. The development of the Indocoke facility aligned perfectly with this growing demand, as coke, derived from coal, is an essential input for the production of steel and other industrial materials. WKC’s construction of the Indocoke facility required precise engineering and robust infrastructure to support the large-scale production of coke, addressing the increasing needs of the domestic and international markets.
By 2016, the global steel market had rebounded after a period of sluggish demand, and Indonesia was seeing a resurgence in infrastructure projects, fueling the need for steel. The Indoferro Steel Factory was completed during this crucial time, when demand for steel in Indonesia and across Southeast Asia was increasing. This facility played a critical role in meeting the rising demand for steel products, particularly for the construction and manufacturing sectors. The development of Indoferro required WKC to deliver a facility capable of supporting heavy machinery and high-volume steel production, positioning it as a key contributor to Indonesia’s industrial growth.
The historical backdrop of these two industries not only adds context to the significance of Indocoke and Indoferro but also underscores WKC’s role in supporting the strategic growth of Indonesia’s coal and steel markets. These projects, completed at critical times for both industries, demonstrated WKC’s ability to execute large-scale industrial facilities that aligned with the economic needs of the country, solidifying their position as a leading contractor in the industrial construction sector.
