In 1994, Wijaya Kusuma Contractors (WKC) completed the construction of the first Under Seaworld in Ancol, Jakarta, a groundbreaking project for marine conservation and tourism in Indonesia. A key challenge in this project was sourcing construction materials that were safe and non-toxic for the sea animals. These specialized materials had to be flown in from the USA, ensuring that the environment inside Seaworld would support the health and well-being of the marine life.
A notable feature of the project was the installation of large curved glass panels that formed a tunnel, allowing visitors to experience the marine world up close. The tunnel, equipped with a people mover, gave guests a unique opportunity to enjoy watching fish and other sea creatures swimming above them. The complexity of curving the glass for such a structure required precision and innovation, further showcasing WKC's expertise in delivering complex and environmentally conscious construction projects.
